Welcome
During my time in this engineering course, I have learned very important skills that can be utilized in the real world. Our journey Starts with resume and cover letter. Here me make our first resume for career research. The resume helped us get familiar with understanding what jobs are looking for in different areas. Next we did a lab report of dice rolling probability; which helped us blueprint our finding in an experiment. After we had our project proposal that allowed us work with three other members to help design and new student center for our campus. Finally we had our technical description where we research and gave a detailed overview through a poster about a project that fit our major; which was Electrical Engineering. These assignments helped us strengthen our knowledge in order to utilize these concepts for the real world.
Our first assignment was made up of two parts; the cover letter and resume. We first had to pick a internship that was related to our major and we looked in the internship for keywords that we can use for our resume. I took those keywords and had used it in my cover to help me in giving the system to look for the keywords they wanted. It helped us give us a better chance to achieve ours goals in the assignment; which was to grab the job listing attention and show we had what it took to be able to take on the challenges that came with the job. The cover letter was made of three paragraphs; the first was to introduce ourselves and why we were applying for this internship. The body paragraphs were to give our qualifications and quantify what made us eligible for this job. Our actually resume used a summary statement and included our experience and skills we had for the job we choose. We used keywords from the job listing to get us a better chance to get that interview. This grew my understanding of what my future jobs are looking for in a professional resume.
The second task was a lab report on dice rolling probability. The goals we had to achieve was : Understanding some basics of probability, Writing an abstract, Formulating a hypothesis, Creating charts and graphs, Researching using academic journals, and Analyzing results. We completed these goals by using our scholar sources. The process of rolling the dice and using a formula to calculate on what sum the two dice would land on the most was a great learning experience. After our finding we had to create a report that analyzed our one hundred dice rolls. we laid out our research by listing our materials and methods. After that we put the results of the experiment and compared our finding with other scholar articles. This grew our knowledge on how to do our research. We utilized these sources to create graphs and put it in our lab report.
The group proposal made us think outside the box to create a new student center for our campus. The goals we had for this assignment was : Choosing a team and working with that team, Brainstorming, Using primary and secondary research methods, Real-world costing and budgeting and Presenting persuasively. We had to make a survey for our students at CCNY asking what they would like in the new student center. With that information we had to included that in the design of the project. After making the design of the student center our group had to include a proposal stating why it would be beneficial to build the new student center. The proposal had five parts: introduction, action plan costs and benefits , team and conclusion. the action plan had us make a plan on how it would be completed and when the center would be done by. Cost and benefits had all the cost of the equipment, materials and the benefits of what this student center had to come with. The process of getting all this information had a lot of digging and finding out why the cost was so expensive. The assignment gave us a deeper understanding of how the construction was done; and why the cost of these building cost a lot to build.
The technical description is a poster broad that give incredible detail on a topic that had to be on our intended major. The requirements for the poster presentation were : interesting, related to your major, appropriate scope to fill poster, researchable at a college level. illustratable and significant. The poster had to be about why it would be more advantageously for the future. Our poster was about maglev trains and why how it would benefit our economy. The deep diving of researching how a maglev train work was hours of research. Making our way through many different sources to understand why a electro magnet has this properties and why does it work. This was my favorite assignment as it was full of new information that was very interesting to my intended major.
In this journey through writing for engineering I have grown my understanding of what the business world is looking for and how to get in easier. Without this course I would not of known what a presentable proposal and lab reports would of looked like and would most likely fail when I got out there in the real world.
